Aadhaar is a verifiable 12-digit identification number issued by UIDAI to the resident of India for free of cost. The central message of Aadhaar is ‘Unique makes you the only one’. Since Aadhaar is based on your Biometrics i.e. your fingerprints and iris scan hence unique.

If you want to change or update your photo in Aadhaar card, you can do so only offline, as there is no provision to do so online as yet.

Here is the step by step process to update your Aadhaar  

Step 1: Visit the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre. You can locate the same from this link here.

Step 2: Download the enrollment from My Account Tab of the UIDAI website or alternatively download it from here. Thereafter, carefully fill up the form.

Step 3: Submit the form to the Aadhaar centre and again provide your biometric details. The executive at the centre will take your photograph to be updated.

Step 4: A nominal fee of Rs 25. + GST will have to be paid to update your photograph.

Step 5: You will receive an acknowledgement slip which carries your URN.

Step 6: Use the URN to check the update status. Click here to go to the search page.

In case you are unable to Aadhaar centre in person then alternatively you can get your picture in Aadhaar updated by writing to the regional UIDAI office. You have to download the Aadhaar data update correction from the official website of UIDAI (link already given above) and fill in all the required details. Then, write an application to the regional office asking them to change your Aadhaar card photo. Send the complete filled application on the regional office address which can be found as per your state where you are residing. Make sure to attach an attested copy of your new photo and a copy of your Aadhaar card with the application and form. Once your photo in successfully updated, you will receive the new copy of your Aadhaar Card at your address within 15 to 20 days.
