Have Aadhar? Get instant PAN in seconds from Income Tax Department for free.

The Income Tax department has come up with an ‘instant’ Aadhaar-based PAN allotment service for individuals who wish to obtain the unique identity for the first time. A fresh PAN will be allotted on the basis of a one-time password (OTP) sent over the “active mobile number” linked with the valid Aadhaar number of an individual, as per the department.

With increased awareness and compliance on part of individuals who wish to file their return and for the same obtain a PAN, Income Tax department has come up with a unique initiative of issuing PAN in few seconds for valid Aadhar number holder.

“This facility is free of cost and instant allotment of e-PAN is available only for a limited period on first-come-first-serve basis for valid Aadhaar holders,” the department said in a recent advisory. A senior official said the new facility has been introduced in view of an increasing number of people applying to obtain the Permanent Account Number (PAN) for their financial and tax matters. The applicant should be first timer who wish to have a fresh PAN number.

Instant allotment of PAN will be possible only by a one-time password (OTP) sent over the “active mobile number” linked with the valid Aadhaar number of a person. The new PAN, obtained by this mechanism, will have the same name, date of birth, gender, mobile number and address that is present in the individual’s Aadhaar.

“The e-PAN facility is only for resident individuals only and no other persons viz. Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), firms, trusts and companies etc,”.

After allotment of PAN the card will be sent to the applicant through the post on the address as reflecting in Aadhar. “This is one more initiative that leverages the Aadhaar database to quickly disburse/allot a government service,” as per spokesperson of the department.

This PAN should also be linked to the Aadhar although the date of linking has been extended again the fifth time to 31 March of next year.
